SIHH '18 - Live Large: IWC Big Pilot's Watch Big Date Edition "150 Years"
A supersized date display for a supersized watch.
BY Celine Yap | Jan 22, 2018 | Feature
This year IWC celebrates 150 years of history with 28 different references, all of them Jubilee creations united by dials in a blue or white lacquered finish. The main highlight is without any doubt the Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 years” but there’s so much more and the most eyebrow-raising one is the Big Pilot’s Watch Big Date Edition “150 Years”.
A perennial favourite among watch enthusiasts, the Big Pilot’s Watch is loved and desired for its ascetic design, superb legibility and oversized proportions. The 2018 version reprises the vintage style hour numerals introduced in 2016 but introduces a new big date display that’s never before been offered with the Big Pilot’s Watch – but that makes perfect sense for this cultural icon. Prominently positioned under the triangular placeholder at 12 o’clock, the large display brings added functionality clearly and, erm, bigly.
This watch comes with an IWC-manufactured calibre 59235 that has a cool eight-day power reserve, which is displayed on the back through a small sapphire window in order to relief the dial of added clutter. Limited edition 100, priced at CHF14,900.
