Singapore label In Good Company Launches Menswear

“The ideas behind the designs are instinctive," says Sven Tan, Creative Director and Co-Designer. “As womenswear designers, we’ve always embraced classic design with a twist, but bringing subtlety into menswear requires a different precision. In terms of getting the right proportion and shape, every centimetre matters in the cut. Too much and the style appears ‘off’, too little and the design becomes pedestrian. It’s a challenging balance that is less obvious in womenswear, but a standout trait in our interpretations of a relevant and modern City wardrobe,”

Sven Tan and Kane Tan, the designers behind the successful In Good Company label, are industry veterans who, together with good friends Julene Aw and Jacelyn Teo, co-founded the label in August, 2012. Starting out in womenswear, the designers created wearable, chic pieces that featured clever details and draping, resulting in collections that could provide multi-occasion use without ever compromising on its sleek, stylish integrity. This January, the label debuts its menswear line, allowing the guys to finally get in on the action.

Singapore is a tough market for any local fashion brand. So, when a label does succeed, you can be sure that they are on to something special. From easy, casual weekend-perfect pieces to tailored shorts in Japanese denim, and even a sneaker collaboration with Sydney shoe label NOTA (None of the Above), the menswear line from IGC features all the modern essentials you’ll be wanting.

The silhouettes are familiar because all are based on classic pieces usually found in a men’s wardrobe. The difference is in the details—sleeves are lengthened; while a dropped shoulder line gives the soft jersey T-shirts a more relaxed style. The heat-bonded hem is a nice touch too, ensuring that the same T-shirts have a cleaner, sharper finish, whilst trouser options include drawstring pants and utilitarian trousers with ankle straps, as well as tailored crop trousers and the aforementioned tailored shorts.

And with prices in the ranging from SGD89 for a T-shirt, to SGD279 for a wool-crepe and cotton gabardine bomber (we have our eye on this one), those looking to get a new outfit in time for Chinese New Year might just find themselves in the right company.

In Good Company Menswear and IGC x NOTA shoes are available exclusively at #B1-06 ION Orchard.
