As careful as we are to put on sunscreen and protect ourselves, there’s something to remember about the sun: it’s good for you. The sun is a major source of vitamin D, which absorbs calcium in your body and regulates its distribution to your bones.
It’s thought to do other things too, from strengthening the immune system to preventing certain cancers, as well as keeping Grandma warm in her favourite chair by the window.
Just remember not to overdo it. For many people, 15 minutes a few days a week in the sun will do the trick. You can always take a supplement, but as with cell-phone batteries, there’s not much use in charging past full.
