A new survey conducted by a financial services company has found that people over 50 are happier, wealthier and more carefree than they've ever been in their lives. The study surveyed 50,000 people aged 50 and over and found that on average, fifty-somethings feel they are physically four years younger and ten years mentally younger than their actual age.
Not something most 25 year-olds can boast.
The baby boomer generation, also labelled the "nifty-50s", are reportedly responsible for a boom in the leisure market from taking up new sports and hobbies and traveling abroad.
Impressively 61 per cent of those surveyed said they were enjoying life more due to having more time for personal activities.
Close to one in three over-65s said they have more goals than they did in their 30s and in financial terms, 60 per cent of over-50s feel they are better off. Since turning 50 more than half had been traveling, one in five planned to study a language and one in ten intended to learn an instrument.
In terms of how they viewed their age, on average participants said they wouldn't feel the idea of being old applied to them until they reached 77 and said they expected to live, on average, to 84.
One 51-year-old woman explained she enjoyed life more because: "I seem to enjoy the little things in life a lot more — appreciate art, nature and simply being at home, on the sofa."
Another woman said she has "Had the best sex of my life with younger men."
Somewhat unsurprising that golden pensions and affordable housing have set them up for a bonanza time in their fifties. Best of luck to generation Brexit.
