Smartphone manufacturers are constantly racking their brains to jazz up future iterations of their flagship mobiles. Main players in the industry like Apple, Samsung, and XiaoMi have revealed their prized product for the year. Wait a minute, there's more?
Tech giant Google has announced two upcoming models from the Pixel phone family: the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, and Singapore will be the first Southeast Asian market to have the bigger Pixel 2 XL (only). In a press release, local telco Singtel said that it will carry the Pixel 2 XL device as Google’s exclusive telco partner, and the device will be made available on 15 November. Google added that it is partnering with local telcos in certain markets. Singapore, as well as Spain and Italy, were picked for this initiative. The lion city will get the Black and White and Just Black models at launch.
The device will be equipped with Active Edge, which allows users to activate and command certain functions such as Google Assistant. This Active Edge feature is similar to an element appeared in the HTC’s U11, which is not surprising as the tech giant has previously tapped the Taiwanese handset maker to work on the Pixel's previous iteration.
Singtel said that those who purchased the device will have free, unlimited storage of original-quality photos and video in Google Photos “through the end of the year 2020”, and “free, unlimited high-quality storage” for photos taken on the Pixel. Other details such as the retail price will be revealed nearer to the launch date. Now the question is, will we see a sneaking queue of phone enthusiasts welcome the Pixel 2 XL on the launch day?
