There are occasions to indulge in a spot of ostentatiousness. All bells and whistles, your watch almost like the parade of supercars whenever the mid-life crisis season hits. And then there is the rest of your life, where Roosevelt’s dictum could serve one better. Paraphrased, at least. The quietly elegant man, with the quietly elegant watch radiates a mien far more impressive than one that screams its price in dripping stones.

A. Lange & Söhne’s latest offering is the Saxonia Thin, the thinnest yet at a height of 5.9MM with case diameters available in two sizes at 37 and 40MM. They’ve updated their solid-gold baton-like hour and minute markers with a slight extension towards the bezel, focusing your eye on its silver, argente-coated dial. Manually wound, the calibre L093.1 movement grants you up to 72 hours of power. It’s available in either white gold or pink gold cases, with their two-hands in matching rhodiumed gold and pink gold respectively. Hand-stitched alligator leather straps in black and reddish-brown completes the watch. Understated refinement is the name of the game; wear this proudly visible as at the end of a French cuff peeking out a well-cut jacket.
