Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Deadbeat seconds is an old complication that we don’t see very often nowadays. It works with a second hand that moves on every second to its next mark.

Sound familiar? Very much so, because it moves like a quartz second hand. The Grande Seconde Deadbeat is a re-hash of an old movement and it is a fascinating proposition for a mechanical watch where, in this case, is prominently placed.

The upper smaller dial contains the central hour and minutes with black transfer Roman numeral hour markers, along with a larger retrograde date dial. All the hands are in gold and they sit on an ivory grand feu enamel dial.

This marvel is powered by an automatic mechanical movement housed in a red-gold case.
