This New Nike Release Is A Celebration Of All Things Air Max
The Air Max Royal is a luxurious update to the iconic Air Max 1.

Twenty-nine years ago today Nike released the Air Max 1. With its visible air unit in the midsole, the design quickly became a modern icon, and was followed up by similarly popular variations like the Air Max 90 and the Air Max 95. But when you get right down to it, it all comes back to Tinker Hatfield's OG version, one of the best-known and most-loved shoes in all of sneakerdom.
In celebration of that heritage, Nike has declared March 26 Air Max Day, and to mark the occasion the brand is dropping a few special releases on the sneaker-buying public. We already told you about the three elusive HTM designs that hit stores yesterday, but here's something new to add to your wish list: the NikeLab Air Max 1 Royal. Available in both tan and black colourways, the new style is the first-ever in what looks to be an ongoing series of "Royal" versions of beloved Nike kicks. A synthetic suede upper is complemented by a leather sock-liner and heel-wrap, plus understated details like a debossed swoosh and a buffed Phylon midsole. The visible air unit, of course, remains intact. There are some things you just don't change.
The NikeLab Air Max 1 Royal retails for USD250 and is available today at nike.com.
