Back in July, Louis Vuitton's men's designer Kim Jones ushered his collaboration with Nike into reality with a collection of brightly coloured sneakers, a travel-friendly Windrunner Jacket, and a few other pieces of packable apparel. Jones was inspired to create the collection after being faced with the demands of his lifestyle, which includes an incredible amount of travel and the obligation to stay stylish.
The resulting pieces are comfortable, stylish, and (most importantly) conducive to a mobile life. And now the collection, called "Packable Sport Style," has revealed a second iteration. It's a much friendlier version of what we got before.
Jones' appreciation for sneaker and streetwear culture reaches back to his childhood, and he's incorporated those influences into his work at Louis Vuitton. Few looks are as iconically street as a tracksuit. All the way back to the days of Run-D.M.C. and before, it's acted as the perfect canvas to mix high fashion and accessible style.
Run-D.M.C. owned it by throwing on crispy kicks and heavy chains, but in 2016 we can accessorise with even more opulent and diverse offerings. This part of the collection features riffs in grey, pink, and blue. Each piece features Nike's famous Tech Fleece with a uniquely blended "space yarn" to offer a near-iridescent quality to the colour. Jones worked with Nike to keep the styles as minimal as possible, boasting single piece construction, bonded pockets, and reverse coil zippers.
Reversible bombers will also be available as a part of the collection. There's one in black with a dark grey reverse face, and one in a dark navy with bright blue as the alternate. Both have a built-in strap to help pack them down and hold their shape for easy transportation.
On the sneaker front, the NikeLab x Kim Jones Air Zoom LWP returns in the black-and-white colourway, along with a new colourway that features a white upper with hits of beige and an icy outsole.
Perhaps the most heartening aspect of this collection is that every style in every color is available in both men's and women's sizing and shapes. Although our bodies are all shaped differently, we should all have access to the same killer looks. Jones is giving all of us the dope shit and trusting us to make the choices that are right for ourselves. That's effective and responsible design.
This drop of the NikeLab x Kim Jones collection releases on September 22 at NikeLab.
