We’re three weeks in, how’s that working out for ya? 2015 was filled to the brim with bootcamps, CrossFit, and those handy-dandy memberships that give you access to a multitude of classes. But perhaps, it’s time for some more devoted attention.

At Level, I got a taste of that. In my previous life as a Uni gymbro, I harboured pretensions of doing powerlifting. But adulthood got in the way and the smorgasbord of fitness classes in this city couldn’t sustain my magpie attention level well enough to keep me to a routine and combat the hours spent in drinking and feasting.

This was related to Level’s founder Alex Salihin right at the start. The warm-up came next (easy-peasy) before doing some bodyweight movements to determine our fitness level (maybe not so easy, but hey still alive).

And then it’s down to the actual workout with a combination of weights and sandbag. Let’s just say, I’ve got the lifting skills and joint mobility down pat but need extra help in the stamina department.

But that’s okay if you’re not into powerlifting. The coaches are well-trained with their own specialties; during our session, a guy was working on some beast skills at the rings while another dude was just about to start his gymnastics training. All one-on-one, suited precisely to your goals.

And if you want to try your hand at other skills and miss the presence of other people sweating and breathing heavily with you, they offer group classes as well in movement culture, basic lifting, boxing and yoga.

It’s time to get serious about your goals, no more faffing about doing this class or that with no clue to what you’re doing. Call the pros in and maybe, just maybe, this is the year where you’ll meet all your resolutions.
