Christina Grimmie, who came in third place on the 6th season of The Voice in 2014, was tragically shot and killed last night after a concert in Orlando, Florida, her publicist confirmed to E! News. She was only 22 years old.

According to a report by CNN, Grimmie was signing autographs for fans outside The Plaza Live after her performance when a man armed with two guns approached and shot her. Her brother tackled the shooter immediately to protect Grimmie and fans from any more harm when the shooter fatally shot himself.

Grimmie was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later from the gunshot wounds.

The man who shot and killed Grimmie was Kevin James Loibl, 27, of St. Petersburg, Florida, police said. But they didn't give any background on Loibl or offer a possible motive.

"It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning," her publicist said in a statement to E! Online.

Before You Exit, the band Grimmie was opening for, released a touching statement following her death.

The Voice and Adam Levine, who was her mentor on the show, also released statements.
