Like the sun rising in the east and workday drinking always seeming like a good idea at the time, having to put up with endless James Bond rumours is an ever-present fact of life.

But it looks like we may have finally found our man.

That's because bookmakers have cut the odds of the British actor James Norton becoming the new 007 down from 33/1 to 3/1, with Ladbrokes even suspending bets on the next Bond.

The relatively unknown 30-year-old Londoner has had roles in TV drama Happy Valley, as well as in Rush, Mr Turner and Dr Who, a C.V. that's not quite on a level with prior favourites (and Esquire cover stars) Idris Elba and the newly loved-up Tom Hiddleston.

Speaking to Metro, a Paddy Power spokesperson said: "We've barely had any bets on Norton to be the next Bond. We thought the first this morning was like a hopeful roulette spin in Casino Royale.

"However, after a sudden sequence of follow-up punts, we're starting to suspect that we're dealing with a Dr. In The Know – so the odds have Skyfall-en."

We hope to God that the spokesperson doesn't speak like that in real life.

So far there isn't even an official word on whether Daniel Craig will be leaving his role as MI5's rogue agent, although it's been suggested he did turn down £68 million to continue the role.

Sixty. Eight. Million.

The current odds on the next Bond can be seen below. Is Nigel Farage worth a Leicester City-esque pound bet?

1/3 James Norton

7/4 Aidan Turner

9/2 Tom Hiddleston

10/1 Idris Elba

11/1 Damian Lewis

12/1 Jamie Bell

12/1 Tom Hardy

25/1 Michael Fassbender

50/1 Gillian Anderson

500/1 Nigel Farage
