Twenty years after the release of Trainspotting, filming has finally begun on the highly-anticipated sequel.
Director Danny Boyle broke the news in an appearance on the Humans of Edinburgh Facebook page on Wednesday. The post has already been liked by nearly 2,000 excited fans."We're up in Scotland filming Trainspotting 2 just now," wrote Boyle."I think what I love most about what I do is the variety, and being able to do something new every day. I get to meet such amazing people all the time.
"I think everyone's fear is doing something a robot can do, and getting stuck doing something repetitive. "I feel very fortunate and grateful to be able to make films, and to be able to always have a choice in what I do.""Coming back to Edinburgh has actually been really fascinating. Since filming the first Trainspotting, Edinburgh has changed dramatically. You can see the gentrification massively in the city.”
Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh had previously said that shooting would not get going until May.Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewen Bremner all reprise their roles from the 1996 cult classic about a group of heroin addicts.
Trainspotting was the highest-grossing British movie of 1996, and was screened at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival but was shown out of competition - according to the filmmakers, due to its hard-hitting subject matter. It went on to become the festival's one unqualified critical and popular hit.Partly based on the original book's sequel Porno, expect the new Trainspotting movie to land in cinemas in 2017.
