In a tragic attempt to get an amazing Facebook profile photo, a man plunged to his death atop Peru's Machu Picchu.

Oliver Park, a 51-year-old German tourist, asked someone to take his picture near the edge of a cliff, ignoring warning signs that he was in an off-limits area.

"He asked a man who was there to take a photo of him. The man came over to take the photo and in the moment he was handing him the camera, he lost his balance and fell," Peruvian tourist, Guillermo Mestas, told television station Canal N.

This is just the latest in a rash of incidents where people have died having their photos taken in exotic locales. Just the day before Park's death, another tourist in Peru died taking a selfie, falling 1,600 feet from the Gocta waterfall.

Selfie-takers have also been killed recently by bison in Yellowstone, hit by trains, and drowned.

According to a Priceonomics report in March of this year, 49 people have died taking selfies since 2014. Most victims were 21-years-old and 75 percent were male.
